World Heritage Oshima Island Day Trip: Exclusive Shinto Festival & Community Experience

Discover the Sacred Island of Oshima
Located in the Genkai Sea, Oshima Island is a core component of the UNESCO World Heritage site, "Sacred Island of Okinoshima and Associated Sites in the Munakata Region." Because the main island of Okinoshima remains completely off-limits to the public, Oshima has served as the sacred guardian of this ancient faith for centuries.
Less than two hours from Hakata Station, this immersive journey offers the perfect, deeply meaningful day trip from Fukuoka City.
Tour Highlights & Cultural Experiences
Exclusive Tsukinami-sai Festival Access: Take a scenic ferry ride across the Genkai Sea to attend the Tsukinami-sai (Monthly Festival) at Munakata Taisha Nakatsumiya. You will witness sacred Shinto ceremonial offerings and the chanting of norito (prayers) up close.
Traditional Naorai Ritual: Following the shrine ceremony, join the Naorai, a traditional ritual of sharing sacred food and drink offerings with the priests and local community. It is a unique opportunity to connect directly with the heart of Oshima's living history.
Guided Island Exploration & Eco-Tourism: Discover the island’s stunning natural landscapes and historic viewpoints. To give back to this small fishing community, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a local beach cleanup, supporting sustainable tourism in Japan.
Optional overnight stays on the island, including morning purification rituals, can be arranged upon request.
